Job Description

We are hiring an Automation Engineer I position focused on supporting multiple Alfa Laval products and Business Units in their effort to provide reliable electrical controls/automation to customers.  The AE owns individual electrical projects from start to finish and maintains budget and schedule in a project management capacity.  Utilizes his/her skills and experience to provide engineering design, schematics, automation (PLC’s and HMI’s), operating manuals, and performance verification.  Provides commissioning and aftermarket support for customer and field technicians including travel.

Duties of Position:
* Project management of control/automation scope of capital and aftermarket (parts/service) orders.
* Engineering design utilizing customer specifications; knowledge of electrical codes, calculations, and best practices; CAD software; and knowledge of PLC and HMI hardware and software.  Purchasing support and operating manual development included.
* Prove functional performance by documenting design and hardware tests.
* Customer and field support of equipment to troubleshoot and resolve site issues with automation packages, including travel and direct communication with customers and suppliers as needed.
* Participate in proposal and sales work.
* Involvement in group continuous improvement initiatives and specific product line R&D.

Education (degree or years) and/or Certification/Registration:

4-Year Electrical Engineering Degree required

Type and Length of Experience:

Automation engineering design and support experience, 2 years preferred

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Attributes Desired in Candidate:

Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows; Electrical troubleshooting, excellent verbal and written communication skills, working knowledge of AutoCAD, working knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC and HMI programming, knowledge of National Electric Code (NEC) and hazardous area installations.

PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
* Requires lifting, bending, and climbing to perform testing on equipment in factory and in field.
* May require exposure to liquid desiccant chemicals (lithium chloride, glycol), cold and hot working climates (freezer or boiler rooms, indoor/outdoor installs), and food production and slaughtering areas.
* Willingness and ability to travel in all capacities (ground, air, etc).

OTHER REQUIREMENTS (i.e., travel, motor vehicle use, etc.)
* Up to 50% travel required, passport and valid driver’s license required.
* Manage expenses and costs effectively
