ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Analyze how a machine will function and create functional specifications.
  • Design electrical system for customer machines.
  • Select appropriate electronic component parts.
  • Design electrical panel layouts.
  • Develop and draw schematics and other required documentation.
  • Be self-motivated to adjust schedule to meet design and release deadlines.
  • Collaborate with controls programmer to meet required functions in accordance with machine specifications.
  • Assist Service and Assembly Departments with electrical debugging of machines being put together on the floor and occasionally in the field at a customer location.
  • Report machine or plant safety concerns to the Electrical Engineering Manager.
  • Document electrical standards for panel construction and machine assembly.
  • Assist in writing service/operating manuals for machines.
  • Assist on research and development of new products.
  • Assist controls programmer with software programs to test new product ideas.
  • Assist Service Department in troubleshooting machines, either in the field via telephone or on-site at the customer’s facility.
  • Ensure that programs follow a standardized and structured format and notation for ease of understanding.
  • Perform other tasks or duties as assigned.

 

Education and Experience

  • Four-year degree in Electrical Engineering, preferred; or two-year technical degree with five years of experience in electrical controls systems.
  • Experience and/or familiarity with SolidWorks preferred.
  • One year of AutoCAD experience.

Technical Skills and Abilities

  • Able to read, understand, analyze and problem solve electrical drawings and engineering related software programs.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC), National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) 79, and Underwriter’s Laboratory (UL) 508A.
  • Able to use standard computer programs for work processing including Microsoft Office products.
  • Knowledgeable about mechatronics, machine control sensing and sizing of servos.
  • Able to assist production floor personnel and co-workers on machine function or design.
  • Must exhibit a high level of inquisitiveness, troubleshooting, and electrical engineering problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
  • Able to adapt to a fast-paced environment.

  • Communicates clearly and effectively (verbally and non-verbally) to individuals and groups, internally and externally, to exchange ideas and accurately convey detailed information.
  • Works well with a variety of people and personalities, and with other Delkor departments.

Physical Requirements

  • Sit at a desk or in meetings for extended periods of time that often include extensive time on a computer.
  • Stand and walk for a portion of the day to interact with other employees.
  • Able to judge distances and space relationships to successfully complete detailed activities to fine tolerances, including reading engineering schematics, spreadsheets and other documents.
  • Communicate effectively to give and receive detailed information through verbal and/or non-verbal communication in person or using the telephone; exchange ideas and accurately convey detailed information to customers, co-workers, supervisors, vendors, and others inside and outside the company.
  • Possess arm and hand mobility and strength to lift, bend, hold, reach, carry, push and pull packages, supplies, and the like used by the Engineering Department and to support the production floor.

Work Environment

  • Sixty percent (60%) of the work duties are performed in an office setting, carrying out detail work sitting at a desk and working on the computer, or working at an office table.
  • Twenty percent (20%) of the work duties are performed on an assembly floor or at customer sites with exposure to tools, dirt, dust, chemicals, metals and plastics, varying temperatures, construction noises and odors from production processes.
  • Approximately twenty percent (20%) of the work duties are performed on the road traveling to customer sites.

Tools and Equipment

  • Use general office equipment such as computer, printer, telephone, fax machine, copiers, e-mail, calculator and other such equipment.
  • Use basic hand tools including as wrenches, pliers, screwdriver, voltmeter, etc.
