Position Scope

We are seeking a highly motivated Occupational Health & Safety Coordinator to perform a strategic and hands-on role by providing guidance towards the Safety program to offices and shops. The successful candidate should have a passion for improving safety standards and be committed to continuous improvement.  The successful candidate should provide ongoing direction and expertise that contribute to the company’s safety culture, behaviour and expectation that ‘all accidents are preventable.’

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with Safety Manager to ensure site compliance with all OHS regulations
  • Promote a culture of safety and prevention through programs
  • Conduct regular site safety inspections
  • Provide site safety orientations for all newcomers to site
  • Communicate and coordinate OH&S procedures, policies and systems on a regular basis to Team leads and Safety personnel
  • Provide information and act as a resource to the Joint Health & Safety Committee, site safety personnel and Team Leads
  • Attend to any injuries on-site and provide appropriate treatment
  • Upkeep documentation required for National Safe Code in our vehicle fleet
  • Work with Safety Manager to conduct detailed investigations, report and follow up on action items for every injury, accident or near-miss incident
  • Other general operational duties and ad-hoc projects as assigned

Qualifications & Abilities

  • Health & Safety Certificate / Diplomas from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • Minimum 1 year of professional OHS experience in the industrial/commercial/institutional sector
  • Experience within a manufacturing, processes and site safety environment is preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety legislation
  • Must have a valid Occupational First Aid Level 2 (OFA 2) or be able to renew the certificate within the first month of work
  • Available to work a variety of weekdays and including Saturdays
  • Solid computer skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to write reports clearly
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly and accurately documentation
  • Fluent in English and knowledge of Chinese is desirable
  • Valid Certifications or Safety Tickets are highly preferred: Forklift & Scissor lift
  • Valid BC Driver’s License is an asset
  • Willing to travel to project sites as may require from time to time
