Full-Time Project Manager

Job Description

The Project Manager applies professional principles, practices, and techniques to lead project teams and control project schedule, cost, and performance risks to ensure successful project completion and satisfied customers. This role has ultimate responsibility for all assigned projects managing customer orders from purchase order through installation and customer acceptance in the field.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Responsible for thoroughly understanding and communicating stakeholder requirements to appropriate team members.
  • Manage stakeholder requirements to meet quality, on-time delivery, and budget requirements.
  • Establish clear ownership for project tasks, ensure that team members have the tools needed and provide timely feedback on project activity. Must be able to facilitate discussion and progress well.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the delivery of project objectives.
  • Track progress and review project tasks to make certain deadlines are met appropriately.
  • Assess project issues and identify solutions to meet productivity, quality, and customer goals.
  • Proactively communicate project status, issues, and risks to management. Utilize available standing meetings and scheduling meetings when necessary.
  • Conduct regular status update meetings with all stakeholders, keeping the stakeholders’ needs and requirements in mind.
  • Work collaboratively with development and support staff to maintain a thorough knowledge of product capabilities.
  • Professionally communicate in writing and verbally on a regular basis with customers.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues when the need arises, promote solutions, and escalate appropriately as needed.
  • Ensure customer training and installation planning aligns with customer expectations.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of a two-year degree in a technical automation area of study plus Project Management training required; a four-year degree in an engineering discipline or automation discipline is preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of project management work experience.
  • A thorough understanding of interdepartmental interactions in business.
  • Demonstrated experience with external customers indicating the ability to build and sustain good rapport and relationships.
  • Experience working in the packaging industry is a plus.

Technical Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated proficiency with a variety of advanced software programs including Microsoft Office, SolidWorks or similar, CRM products, and AutoCAD.
  • Ability to write and communicate clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations, listen attentively and seek clarity, respond well to questions, present numerical data effectively, and to read and interpret complex information.
  • Engineering or technical applications background with capital equipment layout and/or systems experience preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Sit at a desk or in meetings for extended periods of time that often include extensive computer work.
  • Stand or walk for some part of a workday.
  • Judge distances and space relationships to successfully complete detailed activities to fine tolerances, including reading spreadsheets and other documents.
  • Give and receive detailed information in person or using the telephone; exchange ideas and convey detailed information accurately to co-workers, supervisors, vendors, and others inside and outside the company.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Seventy percent (70%) of the work duties are performed in an office setting, carrying out detail work sitting at a desk and working on the computer.
  • Fifteen percent (15%) of the work is performed on the road, traveling to customer and vendor locations.  Travel requirements vary with project status and may be required with short notice.
  • Fifteen percent (15%) of the work is performed on an assembly floor with exposure to tools, dirt, dust, chemicals, metals and plastics, varying temperatures, construction noises and odors from production processes.

  • Use general office equipment such as a computer, telephone, printer, fax, copier, calculator and other office equipment as applicable.
